2020 SHELBY GT500 COMING TO OZ!
The new 2020 Mustang SHELBY GT500 has grabbed attention across the world. From its unmissable, aggressive styling to its 760hp supercharged V8, it is one of the most exciting performance cars to ever wear the blue oval badge. And now it is on its way downunder courtesy of Mustang Motorsport.
Australians love powerful V8 performance cars, and Mustang Motorsport - Australia's only Authorized SHELBY Mod Shop - have fed this passion for decades, supplying authorised SHELBY models to Mustang lovers across the country. The new GT500 will be imported and converted with their OEM quality expert knowledge and experience, and full ADR compliance.
Craig Dean from Mustang Motorsport says, "There has been heaps of excitement since the announcement of the new GT500, and everyone has been asking if we are bringing it to Australia, and now we're thrilled to be able to confirm it. In conjunction with being Australia's only SHELBY Authorized Mod Shop, we provide a full range of licensed SHELBY Mustang models, including the GT350 and SHELBY's F-150 trucks."
The heart of the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 is a 5.2L supercharged flat-plane crankshaft V8 pumping out 760hp (567kw) and 625lb-ft (847nm) torque. It is matched to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission which can change gears in less than 100 milliseconds to ensure all the power is delivered smoothly and continuously to the road or track. Launch control (for track use only) delivers mid-3.0 second 0-60mph times, while five easily selectable drive modes - Normal, Weather, Sport, Drag, Track - make driving a pleasure anywhere, any time.
Performance aerodynamics have been developed from the Ford GT LeMans and Mustang GT4 racing programs, and keep the GT500 stuck firmly to the road or track. The large angular grille openings and muscular hood combine for a menacing, aerodynamic-led design inspired by modern fighter jet aircraft. The car’s wider front fenders and stance house Shelby GT500-specific 20x11-inch (front) and 20x11.5-inch (rear) wheels which are wrapped in custom Ford Performance-spec Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres.
The massive 16.5-inch two-piece SHW front brake rotors and 6-piston Brembo calipers are the largest of any American sports coupe. Next-gen active MagneRide suspension is coupled with chassis refinements resulting in improved steering dynamics, reduced weight and added strength.
Inside, you can choose between leather-trimmed sports seats and leather-trimmed RECARO® seats, and an optional exposed carbon fiber instrument panel is available. The optional Technology Pack adds a Bang & Olufsen 12-speaker sound system with trunk-mounted subwoofer, Blind Spot Information System, heated exterior mirrors with Cobra® LED puddle lamps, voice-activated touchscreen navigation system and six-way driver's seat with 3 memory settings.
The optional GT500 Handling Package includes a Gurney flap and splitter wicks.
For extreme track use, the optional Carbon Fiber Track Pack (available mid 2020) features rear seat delete, 20-inch exposed carbon fiber wheels, custom Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, adjustable exposed carbon fiber GT4 track wing and splitter wickers with integrated dive plane.
Estimated base vehicle price for the GT500 is AUD$245,000-$255,000. This includes current dealer mark ups, import and shipping, all taxes, dealer fees, conversion and compliance. The GT500 will be available early in 2020, and can be specified and ordered now at mustangmotorsport.com.au.
