2020+ ROUSH MUSTANG COOLING
Did you know every ROUSH Stage 3 Mustang produced since 2020 is equipped with the Powertrain Cooling Package? If you aren’t familiar with what is included in the Powertrain Cooling Package, allow us to give you a quick breakdown of the components.
- (2) Auxiliary Coolers
- Differential Cooler (Fastback only)
- Transmission Cooler
- Heat Extracting Fender Vents
- Front Fascia Corner Pockets
2021 ROUSH Stage 3. Design meets functionality
Everything on the 2021 ROUSH Stage 3 is designed to demand your attention on the street and to function on the track. The ROUSH Powertrain Cooling Package is standard for all 2020-2021 ROUSH Stage 3 Mustangs. Behind each of the high flow, corner pocket is an auxiliary cooler. Behind the driver side front corner pocket is an auxiliary cooler that provides additional cooling capacity for the engine and the passenger side is an additional cooler for the supercharger. We recently released these auxiliary coolers for customers that have our 2018+ R2650 Supercharger Kit installed as the Max Cooling Kit. This kit will also work for 2018-2019 ROUSH Stage 3 Mustangs.
The 2020+ ROUSH Stage 3 allows the most air in while allowing hot air to escape with high-flow front and lower grille, front corner aero pockets, fender heat extractors and hood extractors.
If you look closely, you can see the auxiliary cooler mounted behind the functional front aero pocket
This duct allows cool air that passes underneath the Mustang to be diverted up on the manual transmission to cool it
As you know, we offer the ROUSH Stage 3 Mustang in a 6-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission. If you opt for the 6-speed manual transmission a transmission cooler duct is installed to divert air and cool the transmission. On 10-speed automatic transmissions, a transmission cooler is installed to keep your transmission fluids cool while under load. With the added horsepower under the hood, thanks to the ROUSH R2650 Phase 2 Supercharger, we wanted to make sure all of the drivetrain components on the 2020-2021 ROUSH Stage 3 were running as efficiently as possible.
While the Mustang is being driven, the engine compartment is “pressurized” due to the air entering through all of the front fascia openings we have created with the high flow grilles. With all of this air entering the engine compartment and nowhere to escape, this results in a lower pressure delta across the auxiliary radiators making it more difficult for air to flow across these heat exchangers. The fender vents allow air to escape from underneath the hood thereby reducing the underhood pressure and allowing more airflow across the heat exchangers.
Fender vents are added to each fender to allow heat to escape the engine compartment and create less air pressure
The rear differential cooler will turn on and prevent your fluids from reaching extreme temperatures when you're out on the track or enjoying some spirited driving
Last but not least, a rear differential cooler is installed on all of the 2020+ ROUSH Stage 3 Fastback Mustangs. Unfortunately, Ford Mustang Convertibles have an additional support brace that doesn’t allow us to install the differential cooler without heavily modifying the chassis. If you like to take your ROUSH Stage 3 to the track often or actively partake in spirited driving, the differential cooler will help keep your differential fluids from reaching extreme temperatures and create less stress on your drivetrain components.
