Targa North West 2019 - Day 2
Sunday is day two and the final day of competition. The day starts with a short stage called Calder Road followed by repeat run of Hellyer South and then on to Savage River West. We turn around and compete Savage River East before heading to the last stage of the day, Hellyer North.
Unfortunately due to road conditions Calder Road was downgraded for safety reasons. As much as this disappoints we understand that the event organisers need to make these decisions at times in the competitors interest.
Hellyer South was dry and we had an aim to improve on yesterday’s time. We managed to do that by 11 seconds so we’re quite happy with our efforts.
Craig got to have his first competitive drive on the Savage River rd and what a fantastic piece of intense road it is. Dry on the way in but unfortunately wet on the way out we struggled to get traction on the slippery surface.
The final stage of the event was the second pass over Hellyer Gorge North. We would have liked to have bettered our time on the previous days run but a damp road and showers slowed times. We were still happy with our 5th place overall on that stage though.
At the end of the event we finished in 6th place overall and are pleased with our weekends efforts and will be taking a clean undamaged car home ready for the next event.
We couldn’t have done this without service crew who keep us going and servicing within the time constraints of the event so a big thanks to Aaron from Mustang Motorsport and Mary’s husband Charlie who provided the service vehicle and was the runabout.
Our sponsors are always appreciated and we strive to represent them all positively. Many thanks to Wide Tread Tyres, Rhode Smash Repairs and Caprice Papers. And a big thank you to Angryman for the great action shots as always.
The next event is only a week away at Mt Baw Baw so keep posted for updates,
Craig and Mary.
