Targa Tasmania 2018 - Day 2
Today is the first day of the real competition, and the Mustang Motorsport SHELBY team started out in 13th place this morning, 27 seconds behind the leader. Yesterday's dry stages made it possible for Craig to make adjustments on the SHELBY GT so it handles and gets the power to the ground straight up.
The first stage of the day was High Plains, which is fast and flowing to get you going. The S550 SHELBY GT is a totally different car to drive than the 2013 Shelby GT500, so the team needed to gain the confidence required as they chipped away in the morning, improving their position and passing some other competitors on stage. Mary and Craig were starting to settle in and do their best, making up time lost and into lunch had moved up to eighth position.
They cleaned the stages either side of the lunch break, and were close on others. The leaders are really pulling out all the stops in their refined aero cars and are pushing hard for first outright. In the afternoon the SHELBY GT and team performed well and finished the day in eighth position. Day three is looking to be another fine day, so bring it on!
Craig.
