Targa Tasmania 2018 - Day 5
Mary and Craig headed out on a beautiful sunny morning for the fifth day of competition. Through the Strahan stage they continued to try and make up the time lost earlier in the event, and were happy with their efforts, making it through the stage with another PB.
The pace is so much faster again this year and the SHELBY GT is performing well and producing very good times. They are never good enough, though, so we will have to go even harder!
Queenstown is a smooth surface bitumen and, even in the dry, it is almost impossible to put down the immense power of the SHELBY on the uphill section which is full of tight corners. There was lots of understeer all the way up, then it's over the top and the momentum increases as we ran down the hill to the finish line.
The iconic favourite Mt Arrowsmith was next. All I can say is we did some low flying and missed cleaning it by 5 seconds - damn it! We made up 22 and 37 seconds on the two competitors ahead of us, though, so we jumped from eighth to sixth position in GT2. Tarraleah was the last stage before lunch, and we had a dream run, cleaning it by 3 seconds.
After lunch we continued our spirited run for the last two stages, Molesworth and Grasstree Hill. We finished the day in 6th place in GT2, and are sitting 8th outright. Rhonda And Glenys are also having a ball in the Mustang in the tour, keeping us updated at the end of each day.
There is only one day left before this epic adventure is over. Stay tuned for the final update,
Craig.
