Targa Tasmania 2016 - Day 2

Day 1 of the real competition is always a nervous time, especially with a new crew and high expectations. The Sideling is the first stage of the day, and puts it all in perspective. It is the most gruelling stage of the event and, if you get through it, the rest is easy!

The start of the day is sunny with beautiful blue skyies - a dry run across the top, awesome! Alex and I are pumped and ready for a good day of racing, even though we have been chasing a misfire with our engine. This has been frustrating and we have done all that we could to track it down, to no avail. It comes in on trailing throttle and stays with you for as long as it likes. There is a huge loss of power slowing the Mustang when it happens, but we will keep pushing while the engine is turning.

Fighting the low power unfortunately also force a loss of time as Matt Close caught us at the end of the stage, making up 29 seconds.

Legerwood was the next stage and the Mustang and crew did it well - we only had a couple of misfire moments. For Weldborough Pass, we got to the start and found the left front Rotor had a crack in it. Damn it!!. I pushed on while conserving brakes, which obviously cost time. At the lunch break we fixed up the brakes and put better rubber on the front. This improved the Mustang's handling, hence we were starting to make better times. We finished the day all good and, to our surprise, Alex and I are third in the GT2 Category, and only 2 minutes and 2 seconds off the lead. We were shocked, thinking we had a bad day. We are both very happy, all things considered.
