Targa Tasmania 2017

Targa Tasmania 2017 - Day 3

There was rain overnight in Launceston before Leg 3 of Targa Tasmania 2017. With the Shelby in 8th position, we were looking to pick up the pace and move closer to the pointy end of the GT2 competition. The day started out with damp roads from the Silverdome, but as we headed west the roads dried out and this put a smile on our faces. Kate and I were raring to go, and the Shelby was fuelled and roaring.

Moriarty was the first stage of the day. We hit it hard but with some caution, as there is gravel in places and you really need to keep your head on - it’s like marbles at high speed. We got through safely, 4 seconds slower than last year, but the Shelby is running great and the crew are settling in to the day of high speed stages.

Into the lunch stop at Railton, there was nothing to report but a trouble-free run. We had made up one position overall, and headed out for the big afternoon stages - Riana and Cethana, 38km and 36km of fast flowing roads with some tricky hairpins and crests to make you fly. We sucessfully completed the day and headed into Burnie, to catch up with Albert and Aaron, our service crew. The Shelby GT was serviced and prepped with special thanks to Antonio Di Vona at Must Love Cars Workshop. We were surprised to see he has a Yellow Mustang!

After the service we put her to bed in the Targa Fest display area, handed out the posters to the local fans, and headed to Kath and Terry Ferguson’s for dinner and a rest… oops, fell asleep… who’s the comedian?

See you tomorrow,
Craig.
