2018 Targa Tasmania - Mustang Motorsport

Targa Tasmania 2018 - Preview

The Mustang Motorsport team are campaigning the 2015 Shelby GT in the GT2 competition in Targa Tasmania, which begins on Monday 16th April. Craig Dean and Mary Hughes have teamed up after Kate Catford retired from the team last year - we wish her all the best in her future motorsport activities. After a crash in the 2017 Great Tarmac Rally in Marysville last October, the Shelby GT has gone through a total rebuild and is wearing a new colour scheme, showing off the carbon fibre hood and the sharp look a Shelby provides.

We are excited to head into this year's event, with the support of our many continuing sponsors, as well as welcoming Pitman Trucks and Euro Trucks Spares to the team. The ongoing support of all our sponsors in greatly appreciated. They are all great people providng great products and services - please support them if you need the services they provide.

Earlier this year Mary and Craig competed in a the Lake Mountain Sprint, their first shakedown together and under extremely wet conditions. On day 1 took to the podium in third place in the high powered 2013 Shelby GT500 Mustang. Craig had taken the Shelby to 9 outright competition podium finishes in 2012, 2013 and 2014, and told Pony Press that Mary did a fantastic job of calling the notes, adding a fresh and relaxing approach to the team. Craig is looking forward to working on their racing strategy and reconnaissance to ensure they are well prepared for the 2018 Targa Tasmania Tarmac rally competition starting on the 16th of April in Launceston.

If you are in Tassie and you see the bright orange Shelby GT, say g’day to Craig and Mary.
