It was the final day of Targa Tasmania 2018 and the Mustang Motorsport team were relaxed and ready for the last six stages South of Hobart. With the first two stages rough and bumpy, caution was taken as the most important job at hand now was to bring the car home straight after a long week of rallying.
Mary and Craig were really looking forward to the third day's racing, with clear blue skies and dry weather. The day's first stage, The Sideling, is the one that's really treacherous when it's wet, so hitting the road this morning under the shining sun was just awesome.
Mary and Craig headed out on a beautiful sunny morning for the fifth day of competition. Through the Strahan stage they continued to try and make up the time lost earlier in the event, and were happy with their efforts, making it through with another PB.
Today is the first day of the real competition, and the Mustang Motorsport SHELBY team started out in 13th place this morning, 27 seconds behind the leader. Yesterday's dry stages made it possible for Craig to make adjustments on the SHELBY GT so it handles and gets the power to the ground straight up.
We woke up to a cloudy sky and it looked as though it could rain. After packing our bags we set off to our new overnight accommodation in Strahan on the wast coast. Heading out to the first stage, Cethana, the fog was thick in places and visibility was poor. Fortunately, the closer we got to the stage start the clearer it became, and the day turned into another beauty.
The official start of the event is held at the Country Club Casino Hotel. From there Mary and Craig drove out to the first stage, Kayena. This stage has a minimum time of 5 minutes with a practice RTZ, (Restricted Time Zone). It is basically designed for all to ease into the event.
